Attendance
At Rosewood we are dedicated to supporting strong attendance so that our learners receive an excellent education, including the healthcare provision that is part of our integrated offer. The government also has a drive to improve school attendance and if you are interested you can read more about it here.
Rosewood learners are able to attend school with their complex medical needs and children have a wide range of care plans written by the school nurses, which support school staff to give high quality care for children’s health and wellbeing alongside supporting their education. Children can still attend school if they have had or are having seizures, need additional medication, or in their post-surgery recovery times. We may need to meet with families to discuss changes in need at these times.
However, there are times when you should keep your child at home, for example:
-
Sickness and/or diarrhoea which is not part of their usual presentation. We ask that you keep children at home until 48 hours have elapsed from their last episode.
-
Heavy colds, coughs or fevers which mean your child is not well enough to engage with learning activities in school.
-
Infectious periods for transmittable infections – please follow health professionals’ advice.
We also have a clear protocol for when we will call you to collect your children from school if they become unwell during the day. These include the elements above, but would also include needing care or support for their health which is not covered by their care plans.
Our Attendance Policy is available for you to read on our Policies page.
